What is zoledronic acid 4 mg used for?

Zoledronic acid works by attaching itself to the bone and slowing down the rate of bone change. It is used: To prevent bone complications, e.g. fractures, in adult patients with bone metastases (spread of cancer from primary site to the bone).

How long can you use zoledronic acid?

For bone cancer and multiple myeloma, this medicine is usually given every 3 to 4 weeks. This treatment will continue until your body responds to the medicine. For osteoporosis, this medicine is usually given once a year and will continue until your body responds to the medicine.

Who needs zoledronic acid?

When zoledronic acid is used to prevent osteoporosis in women who have undergone menopause, it is usually given once every 2 years. When zoledronic acid is used to treat Paget's disease of bone, it is usually given as a single dose, but additional doses may be given after some time has passed.

What is the most common side effect of zoledronic acid?

Fever is the most common adverse effect associated with zoledronic acid infusion. Flu-like syndromes including fever, chills, bone pain, and/or arthralgias and myalgias have also occasionally been reported. These symptoms generally did not require treatment and resolved within 24 to 48 hours.

Who should not take zoledronic acid?

You should not be treated with zoledronic acid if you are allergic to it. You also should not receive Reclast if you have: low levels of calcium in your blood (hypocalcemia); or. severe kidney disease.
