What is zoledronate infusion used for?
Zoledronate is an osteoporosis medication that can help strengthen your bones and reduce your risk of breaking a bone. It is available as an annual intravenous infusion (drip). Zoledronate is a 'bisphosphonate' – a group of drugs that work by slowing down the cells that break down bone.
Is zoledronic acid a cancer treatment?
Zoledronic acid (Zometa) is not cancer chemotherapy, and it will not slow or stop the spread of cancer. However, it can be used to treat bone disease in patients who have cancer. Zoledronic acid is in a class of medications called bisphosphonates.

Zoledronic acid works by attaching itself to the bone and slowing down the rate of bone change. It is used: To prevent bone complications, e.g. fractures, in adult patients with bone metastases (spread of cancer from primary site to the bone).
