  • severe liver failure ;

  • epilpesia not stabilized by treatment;

  • recent head trauma;

  • bowel obstruction ;

  • in combination with medicines containing buprenorphine, nalbuphine, pentazocine, naltrexone, nalmefene or sodium oxybate ;

  • child under 6 months;

  • breast- feeding (in case of initiation of treatment or prolonged treatment).

ATTENTION

This strong opioid drug poses a risk of addiction . The risk is higher in case of prolonged use or exceeding the prescribed dosage in the face of a decline in the effect of the drug (tolerance). The prescribed dose should never be exceeded without further medical advice.

A gradual reduction in doses is necessary after prolonged treatment to limit withdrawal symptoms ( withdrawal syndrome ) which may be observed in the event of abrupt cessation of treatment.

Precautions are necessary in case of a history of drug addiction or alcoholism, renal insufficiency , intracranial hypertension , sickle cell disease , severe chronic asthma or bronchitis, hypothyroidism and in the elderly, especially in the case of adenoma of the prostate .

Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages during treatment.

This medication can induce sometimes intense drowsiness in some people. This drowsiness can be increased by taking alcohol or other sedative drugs . Driving or using dangerous machinery is not recommended.

Athlete: this medicine contains a substance likely to make certain anti- doping tests positive .

INTERACTIONS OF THE DRUG ACTISKENAN WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES

This medication should not be combined:
  • medicines containing pentazocine, nalbuphine, buprenorphine ( TEMGÉSIC , SUBUTEX and its generics ), naltrexone or nalmefene: decrease in the analgesic effect of morphine ;

  • with sodium oxybate : increased risk of respiratory depression .

It may interact with drugs containing rfampicin.

Also inform your doctor if you are taking sedative medication ( tranquilizers , sleeping pills , antidepressants , neuroleptics , etc.); they may increase the risk of drowsiness or respiratory depression .

FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

PREGNANCY :

The use of morphine and its derivatives should only be considered in pregnant women if absolutely necessary, in fact:
  • respiratory failure may occur in the newborn of a mother treated with high doses, even if the treatment is punctual but shortly before delivery;

  • withdrawal syndrome , on the other hand, can affect newborns if their mother receives regular treatment, even at low doses. The child then suffers from irritability, vomiting, and even convulsions .

It is therefore important to inform the obstetrician of any opioid intake , so that these risks can be prevented by monitoring and any appropriate treatment.

FEEDING WITH MILK :

Morphine passes into breast milk: breast-feeding is contraindicated in the event of prolonged treatment. A single take is not a problem.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE OF THE DRUG ACTISKENAN

The capsules should not be swallowed whole with a little water. For children under 6 and people who have difficulty swallowing the capsules, they can be opened and their contents mixed with semi-liquid foods (puree, yoghurt, etc.) or administered using a a gastric tube.

USUAL DOSE:

  • Adults and children over 6 months : the dosage , strictly individual, is gradually adapted by the doctor according to the intensity of the pain and any associated medications. The daily dose is generally divided into 6 doses, most often equivalent, 4 hours apart. This immediate-release form can also be used to supplement the action of prolonged - release morphine analgesics .

TIPS

Morphine and related drugs are not just for cancer pain; they are also used in the short-term treatment of severe pain that may follow a fracture, surgery, myocardial infarction , etc.

Follow the dosage and duration of treatment prescribed by your doctor. But if the treatment seems insufficient, do not hesitate to contact him again.

Special prescription conditions:

The prescription for morphine and related substances ( narcotics ) is written by the doctor on a secure prescription.

The period of validity of the prescription is limited to 28 days.
