IN WHICH CASE IS THE DRUG URSODESOXYCHOLIC ACID ACCORD PRESCRIBED?
This medicine contains a substance that is normally found in very small amounts in bile. It stimulates the secretion of bile and has an anti-inflammatory and protective action on liver cells. In addition, it decreases the saturation of bile with cholesterol .
It is used to dissolve gallstones formed from cholesterol and in the treatment of certain chronic liver diseases.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF THE DRUG URSODESOXYCHOLIC ACID BIOGARAN
inflammation of the gallbladder,
infection or obstruction of the bile ducts .
ATTENTION
Regular blood tests are necessary during treatment; they make it possible to quickly detect any deterioration in the functioning of the liver.
INTERACTIONS OF THE DRUG URSODESOXYCHOLIC ACID BIOGARAN WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES
This medication may interact with colestyramine ( QUESTRAN ), which may be used to relieve itching associated with certain jaundices. A minimum period of 4 hours must be observed between taking these two drugs.
Also tell your doctor if you are taking any medicine containing ciclosporin.
FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
PREGNANCY :
The effect of this medicine during pregnancy is not well known: only your doctor can assess the possible risk of its use in your case.
FEEDING WITH MILK :
From the data currently available, it is not known whether this medicine passes into breast milk. Nevertheless, its use is possible during breastfeeding on medical advice.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE OF THE DRUG URSODESOXYCHOLIC ACID BIOGARAN
This medication should be taken with meals.
USUAL DOSE:
The dosage is strictly individual. It varies according to the weight of the patient and the disease being treated.
In gallstones : the dose is on average 2 or 3 tablets at 250 mg or 1 to 2 tablets at 500 mg per day, taken once in the evening or taken twice, morning and evening.
In chronic liver diseases: the dose is on average 6 tablets of 250 mg or 3 tablets of 500 mg per day.
In hepatobiliary disorders associated with cystic fibrosis in children over 6 years old: 20 mg to 30 mg per kg and per day.
TIPS
The action of this drug in the treatment of gallstones is slow . It should be monitored by ultrasound . In the absence of efficacy after 6 months, the treatment must be stopped.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE DRUG URSODESOXYCHOLIC ACID
Common: pasty stools; diarrhea requiring dose reduction .
Very rare: abdominal pain, calcified gallstone , urticaria .
Not known: worsening or onset of jaundice.
