Large veins Large veins
(Venae cavae)
When examining a cross-section in the lower vena cava, we note that its wall is composed of the following layers, from inside to outside, as follows:
Tunica intima
It consists of an endothelium blanket and a layer under a blanket. The subterranean layer sometimes has an internal elastic membrane, which is normally wavy.
B- The central tunica Tunica media
This tunic is thin and its component elements (especially smooth muscle fibers) are reduced.
C- Tunica tunica adventitia
Note that they are thicker than the previous covers and contain many bundles of longitudinal smooth muscle fibers. These bundles separate different amounts of dissociated connective tissue. The outer part of the tunic has small vascular vessels, Vasa vasorum, the external elastic membrane.
