Protocol of sterilization

Protocol of sterilization:
Initial cleaning, inspection , cleaning, sterilization, storage.***

Sterilization Protocol:
Sterilization, is the physical or chemical procedure by which all microorganisms present in an object, including viruses and spores, are eliminated, avoiding any risk of infection.
At Center Dental L´Arboç, we apply a strict STERILIZATION PROTOCOL, which ensures the effectiveness of the process by helping us with specific equipment that further increases safety.
Dentistry has similar risks to those of other medical specialties practiced outside the hospital setting.

WHY STERILIZE IN DENTISTRY?
The (ADA) American Dental Association recommends that any patient who goes to a dental clinic can be, without knowing it, an infectious agent. If the necessary precautions are not taken, these microorganisms could be transmitted to other patients (cross infection), through biological fluids (blood, saliva), aerosols ……

HOW DO YOU GET A RIGHT STERILIZATION?
Sterilization systems are suitable when they are capable of eliminating even spores (resistant microorganisms) of certain bacterial species (Bacilus stearothermophilus and Bacilus subtilis). The specific equipment for such sterilization is the autoclave.

HOW IS THE STERILIZATION CYCLE IN DENTAL CENTER L´ARBOÇ?
The sterilization of the instruments requires a series of successive cycles whose purpose is the effectiveness of the process.

- Disinfection:
The instruments are immersed in a disinfectant solution that will soften the remains of organic and inorganic matter that has been adhered to the instruments during use. Thus, we will eliminate some pathogens and reduce the risk of infection of health personnel.

- Cleaning:
The dirt that the instruments have is removed until the sterilizer contacts the entire surface. An ultrasonic bath is used that applies water vapor at high temperatures.

- Wrapped:
The instruments will be bagged to keep it in sterile conditions for long periods of time.

- Sterilization:
The most important. With it we will destroy all microorganisms (pathogens and non-pathogens) that are in the instruments. The apparatus used is the “autoclave”, which exposes the material to water vapor at high temperatures about 125º.

- Control of the sterilization process:
With the periodic verification of the sterilization process we will ensure that the microorganisms have been eliminated. At CENTER DENTAL L´ARBOÇ, we have biological (bacterial spores) and chemical controls that allow us to evaluate this process. These biological indicators are the most precise quality control, to them we add chemical indicators to ensure that all the temperature and absence of bacteria that are necessary for proper sterilization are met.

Storage:
The prepared and sterile instruments will be stored in a dry place avoiding breakage to avoid contamination by environmental bacteria until their next use.

WHAT OTHER DISINFECTION PRECAUTIONS DO WE HAVE?
In addition to performing the entire cleaning, disinfection and sterilization cycle, we use all disposable material, needles, saliva ejectors, anesthesia pods, gloves, brushes, material applicators, sterile gauze, scalpel, sutures and a long list of material and instruments prepared for single use.
The disinfection of dental equipment and surfaces, we perform between patient and patient through specific disinfectant solutions to clean the dental chair, its ducts and deposits and also the surfaces of the potentially contaminated cabinets.
All our professionals wear gloves, masks and uniforms which makes a barrier.
We use specific containers to dispose of sharps and all contaminated biological debris. We work with quality prosthetic laboratories and certified hygiene guarantee.
