This medicine comes in the form of two different tablets: the white tablets for the day contain a decongestant vasoconstrictor (pseudoephedrine) and paracetamol ( antipyretic and analgesic ); the blue tablets, intended to be taken in the evening, contain an antihistamine with a drying effect on nasal secretions and paracetamol.
It is used to relieve cold symptoms : stuffy nose, runny nose, headache and/or fever.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF THE DRUG ACTIFED COLD DAY AND NIGHT
liver failure ;
risk of angle-closure glaucoma ;
risk of urine blockage ( prostate adenoma ) ;
arterial hypertension not controlled by specific treatment;
severe coronary insufficiency ;
history of seizures ;
history of stroke ; _ _
in combination with a non-selective MAOI - type antidepressant or for at least 15 days after taking it;
in combination with another decongestant vasoconstrictor or a vasoconstrictor containing one of the following substances: bromocriptine, pergolide, lisuride, cabergoline, ergotamine or dihydroergotamine;
child under 15;
breastfeeding .
ATTENTION
Although sold without a prescription, this medicine contains a vasoconstrictor which may cause potentially serious cardiac or neurological side effects . Its use requires certain precautions, in particular the respect of doses and contraindications. Be sure not to combine it with any other medication containing a decongestant vasoconstrictor , especially nasally .
Decongestant vasoconstrictors can increase heart rate ( tachycardia ) and cause palpitations and nausea. If these adverse effects are too marked, treatment should be discontinued.
They can also be responsible for rare neurological complications ( convulsions , hallucinations, abnormal agitation), especially in the event of excessive dosage . Respect the recommended dose.
It is preferable to take medical advice in the event of hyperthyroidism , heart disease, diabetes , psychic disorders, renal insufficiency and in the elderly, in particular in the event of chronic constipation , a tendency to dizziness or drops in tension.
Taking this medicine can cause acute glaucoma in predisposed people: red, hard and painful eye, with blurred vision. An extreme emergency consultation with an ophthalmologist is necessary.
Paracetamol is present alone or in combination with other substances in many medicines: make sure you do not take several medicines containing paracetamol at the same time, because taking them together leads to a risk of overdose which can be toxic for the liver.
Avoid alcoholic beverages: increased risk of drowsiness.
This medicine contains an antihistamine which can induce drowsiness, sometimes intense in some people. This drowsiness can be increased by taking alcohol or other sedative drugs . Make sure on the occasion of the first catches that you support it well, before driving or using a dangerous machine.
Sportsman: this medicine contains a substance considered to be a stimulant (phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine or synephrine) which appears in the 2004 monitoring program of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. It can be looked for in the urine of athletes in order to detect possible misuse.
DRUG INTERACTIONS ACTIFED COLD DAY AND NIGHT WITH OTHER SUBSTANCES
another oral decongestant vasoconstrictor containing phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine or methylphenidate or a nasal vasoconstrictor containing naphazoline , oxymetazoline, ephedrine or tuaminoheptane sulphate: risk of hypertensive crisis;
a non-selective MAOI - type antidepressant ( MARSILID ): a period of at least 15 days must be respected between taking these 2 drugs.
It may interact with ergot derivatives used in Parkinson's disease (bromocriptine, pergolide, lisuride, cabergoline) or in migraine (ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, methysergide) or with selective A MAOIs (moclobemide).
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medication with atropine or sedative effects ( tranquilizers , sleeping pills , certain cough or pain medications containing opiates , antidepressants , neuroleptics , etc.).
In the event of treatment with an oral anticoagulant and with paracetamol at maximum doses (4 g per day) for at least 4 days, increased monitoring of the anticoagulant treatment may be necessary.
FERTILITY, PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
PREGNANCY :
Due to the presence of pseudoephedrine, the use of this medication is not recommended for pregnant women.
FEEDING WITH MILK :
This medication passes into breast milk. It is contraindicated during lactation.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE AND DOSAGE OF THE DRUG ACTIFED COLD DAY AND NIGHT
The tablets should be swallowed with a glass of water, respecting a minimum interval of 4 hours between doses. In case of severe renal insufficiency , it is necessary to space the catches of at least 8 hours.
USUAL DOSE:
Adult and teenager over 15 years old : 1 white tablet, 1 to 3 times during the day (morning, noon and dinner), and 1 blue tablet in the evening at bedtime.
The duration of treatment should not exceed 4 days.
TIPS
This drug has no anti-infective effect. If the problems persist for more than a few days, consult your doctor.
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE DRUG ACTIFED COLD DAY AND NIGHT
Drowsiness or insomnia: the antihistamine is sedative while the vasoconstrictor can have an exciting effect. Depending on the person, one or other of these effects may predominate.
Dry mouth, constipation , accommodation disorders , urinary retention.
Orthostatic hypotension , balance disorders, dizziness , tremors, agitation, confusion of ideas especially in the elderly.
Palpitations , anxiety, headaches, sweating, nausea, vomiting.
More rarely: allergic reaction , abnormal blood count .
