Suxamethunium.. Muscle relaxant and depolarizer. It produces rapid and complete paralysis and has special value in laryngoscopy and intubation

Suxamethonium is the only muscle relaxant that is widely used.
It produces a rapid and complete paralysis that lasts very short in most patients and has special value in laryngoscopy and intubation.
If the paralysis persists, ventilation should be assisted until the muscle function is fully restored.
Suxamethonium usually produces the first phase (depolarization) of the neuromuscular block.
After the use of large doses or use for a long time, the nature of the blockade becomes the second phase (non-depolarizing) of the blockade; and the blockade of this second stage (also known as double blockade) is accompanied by prolonged neurological and muscular blockage and apnea.
