Chromosomes are small cell components that each carry hundreds of genes and can be observed during cell division in humans. The human cell contains (46) chromosomes arranged in (23) pairs. As is known, chromosomes carry genes that determine the biological heritage of the individual, except No. (23), which is responsible for determining the sex of the fetus. Sometimes chromosomal dysplasia or disturbance occurs during growth and splitting of fertilized egg such as:
1 - the splitting of one of the chromosomes abnormally.
2 - increase in the number of chromosomes.
3 - error in the adhesion of chromosomes to another.
4 - decrease in the number of chromosomes.
Different factors may lead to chromosomal anomalies such as exposure to harmful radiation, severe viral infections during pregnancy, and the effect of various medical drugs and chemicals. (Dr. Al-Qarouti, Dr. Al-Samadi, Dr. Sartawi 1995)
From the above, it is clear that chromosomes are a very important factor in the injury or safety of the fetus. Any disorder in the composition or division of these chromosomes leads to mental retardation. We found that there are some factors that cause this abnormality, To be avoided by the pregnant mother in order to preserve the health of her fetus from the incidence of various diseases.
