How to stimulate motor development from four to six months?

stimulate motor development:

In the previous article we talked about motor development in our baby from 4 to 6 months.
In this article, we are going to talk about how to stimulate  this development.

Factors stimulating motor development in an infant under 6 months:

Some aspects that we must take into account are:
  •  We should not carry out the stimulation session after our baby has fed. The ideal is to wait at least 30 minutes.
  •  When carrying out the activities, we must ensure that the child is with the least amount of clothing possible: for example, a diaper or comfortable pants and a loose shirt.
  •  We must stimulate the boy or girl to carry out the activities, congratulating him on his achievements and making him feel important.
  •  It is suggested to repeat each activity three to four times per session.
  •  It is recommended that we carry out at least three weekly stimulation sessions. (for  example:  Monday, Wednesday  and Friday).
  •  The duration of the session must be according to the age of our baby, in this case, it must last a maximum of 30 minutes, to avoid exhaustion or frustration.
  •  If our baby is opposed to doing any activity, we can wait, we should not force it.

Motor development:

For the first stimulation session, we will need:

  •  A blanket or blanket.
  •  various toys.
  •  Small objects, of different color and texture.
  •  A box or plastic container.
Let us begin!

First activity:

We are going to place the girl or boy on her  back  on a  blanket or blanket, take her by the forearms and slowly sit her down, while doing this say “up”. While sitting, slowly lean him forward so that he rests his hands between his legs. (10  minutes) .

Stimulated area: Motor. This movement allows our baby to  control the trunk, helps strengthen the muscles of the neck, back and hips.

Second activity:

We lay the  child face  down  on a blanket spread out on the floor. We are going to place  toys a little removed from their hands.

The idea is that she should try to reach them. You can help by placing your hands on the bottoms of the child's feet, to provide support and encouragement when reaching for the toys. (10  minutes).

Stimulated area: Motor. By placing their hands on the soles of their feet as support, the boy or girl will realize their possibilities to move when reaching objects, which allows them to drag (it is the first expression before crawling).

Third activity:

On a flat surface, place various objects such as: rolled towels or blankets, pillows as if they were obstacles.

At the end of the obstacle course, place some toys. Now, place the boy or girl face down and show him one of the toys that is at the end of the track, so that the boy or girl tries to reach it by crossing the track (10  minutes).

Stimulated area: Motor.  It allows him to strengthen his muscles, start crawling and identify objects.

Fourth  activity:

Place different toys (little animals, cubes, scraps of cloth...) in a box or plastic container and give the box to the child, who must begin to take out the objects and meanwhile, you must name the object that the child has taken out of the box.
The exercise is repeated but keeping the objects in the box again. (10 minutes).

Stimulated  area: motor, language. Strengthens his fine motor skills and learns names of objects.

Some tips:

  •  Massage him by touching his skin.
  •  Carry him by the armpits and swing him.
  •  Take advantage of the bath in the tub so that he splashes the water with his little hands.
