"Biodiversity" includes all plant and animal species, their genetic resources and the ecosystems to which they belong. In short, biodiversity encompasses all forms of life on Earth, whether on land or in water. Biodiversity provides the world with a guarantee for continuous supply of food and countless raw materials used by humans in their daily lives and for building their present and future. Biodiversity includes not only biotic species present in an aquatic or terrestrial environment in a specific time unit, but also the ecosystems and genetic systems from which these species originate.
