How does smoking affect the fetal or child's eye health?
1. Smoking during pregnancy is related to a decrease in the weight of the child at birth, or to premature delivery (ie early).
2. The child is more likely to develop schizophrenia, which is about five times more likely than not to be exposed to secondhand smoke by their mothers.
3. Schizophrenia in childhood causes inflammation of the cornea and injury to the child with the pink eye (conjunctivitis).
