Treatment of varicella (chicken pox) Varicella.. Disinfectants. Systemic antihistamines. Antipyrine. Acyclovir

WHAT ARE THE TREATMENTS FOR CHICKENPOX?

Depending on the symptoms, the doctor may prescribe skin disinfectants or antihistamines for itching due to chickenpox. It is sometimes necessary to relieve the fever with paracetamol. To maintain hygiene and prevent the child from scratching, cut and brush with soap his fingernails, give him showers rather than baths and practice an antiseptic cleaning of the pimples once a day.

HOW TO PREVENT CHICKENPOX?

There is a vaccine to prevent the disease. Nevertheless, the generalization of the vaccine against chickenpox in children is not recommended in France. Chickenpox is almost always mild in children. Insufficient vaccination coverage risks postponing cases of varicella into adulthood and leading to more severe forms. The chickenpox vaccine is recommended for children on long-term cortisone treatment, as well as for children who have never had chickenpox and who are awaiting an organ transplant. It is also recommended for adults who have never had this disease, after contact with a patient with chickenpox.

Immunoglobulins (anti-varicella antibodies) can be given to a fragile child who has been in contact with the disease.

If a case occurs in a community of children, eviction is not mandatory. On the other hand, it is strongly recommended to warn the staff of a possible contagion.

CHICKENPOX VACCINE

The varicella vaccine is covered in certain indications by Health Insurance at 65% (the rest is generally reimbursed by complementary health insurance such as mutuals). It should be noted that the act of vaccination itself (the consultation and the injection) is reimbursed at 70% by Health Insurance.
