- Islam generally forbids abortion in the name of respect for human life as evidenced by the Koranic verse ("Do not kill your children for fear of harm, we will reward them and you, if you kill them, it was a great mistake").
- As Sunni doctrine goes: to prevent abortion in the majority of cases, but especially when the pregnancy passes 40 days is the date of completion of the fetus and the beginning of the soul is planted in it and confirms the owner: that abortion is not allowed at all after 40 days and whatever the reason.
- The Shiite doctrine: that abortion is prohibited except in exceptional cases very narrow and has gone to the fatwa of Imam Shirazi to consider abortion forbidden.
